Rosazzo

The Protected Pesignation of Origin "Rosazzo" (DOCG) is granted to a single type of white wine, without further specification or indication.

Grapes

"Rosazzo" is produced using a minimum of 50% of grapes from the Friulano grape variety, between 20% and 30% of Sauvignon and a further 20% and 30% of Pinot Bianco and/or Chardonnay. Finally, Ribolla Gialla (up to a maximum of 10%) and other white grapes, suitable for cultivation in the province of Udine (maximum 5%) can also be added.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Rosazzo" is a white wine with great personality, with a balanced acidity content. It is straw yellow in colour, more or less intense, with a characteristic and delicate bouquet and a dry, harmonious and winy flavour. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 12.00% vol.

Grape production area

The production area is located within the province of Udine and coincides with the southern part of the area in which the DOP "Friuli Colli Orientali" is produced. The climate tends to be mild, with not too much rain.

Specificity and historical notes

The development of viticulture in the production area is closely linked to the presence and activity of the Abbey of Rosazzo. The monks have allowed or developed the wine tradition, as well as its crystallization in very important written documents. A fundamental contribution in terms of commercialisation of wines, however, was given by the Republic of Venice, which long dominated this area.
