Grapes

Capriano del Colle red wines, in all variants, are produced with a minimum of 40% of Marzemino grapes, combined with Merlot (minimum 20%) and Sangiovese (minimum 10%). For the remaining part, other red grapes grown in Lombardia may be used. In the case of Marzemino wine, on the other hand, the production must take place in purity, with 100% grapes from the homonymous vine. The superior white and white varieties, on the other hand, must have 60% Trebbiano di Soave, Trebbiano di Lugana and/or Trebbiano Toscano and 40% other white grapes, suitable for cultivation in the region. The same Trebbiano vines, on the other hand, are present for a greater share, equal to 85%, in the Capriano wine of Colle Trebbiano.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The White (11% vol.) is straw yellow, with a delicate and pleasant aroma, floral and fruity, and dry and balanced flavor. In the Trebbiano variant it has greenish reflections and a fresh, harmonious taste. The Superiore version (12% vol.), on the other hand, stands out for its savoury, harmonious and full-bodied flavour. Marzemino (11.5% vol.), a red wine, also has a delicate and pleasant aroma, with a dry, fresh and harmonious flavour. The bouquet of the red wine is more ample and winy, with a fresh, savoury, dry, harmonious and balanced flavour. The Riserva (12% vol.), on the other hand, has a more complex aroma and a broad, enveloping and structured, rightly tannic taste. Finally, the Novello has a fresh and floral scent, which releases delicate scents of berries, while the taste is soft and pleasant.

Grape production area

The production area, located in the centre of the Pianura Padana, is limited only to the municipalities of Capriano del Colle, Poncarale and Flero.

Specificity and historical notes

For a long time, the cultivation of vines in the Capriano del Colle area was carried out for medical reasons, as a defence against pellagra.
