Nebbiolo d’Alba

The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) "Nebbiolo d'Alba" identifies the homonymous red wine and its variants Superiore, Spumante and Spumante Rosè. In addition, there is the possibility of production with mention of vineyard.


Grapes

All the wines of the denomination are produced in purity, using exclusively grapes from Nebbiolo vine.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The Rosso is ruby red in colour, tending towards garnet; it has a fruity and characteristic aroma, with a dry, velvety and harmonious flavour; the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 12% vol. (12.5% vol. with mention of vineyard). The Superiore variant maintains the same colours and notes of taste, but has a fruity and characteristic perfume, embellished with possible hints of wood. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 12.5% vol. (13% vol. for wines with indication of vineyard). The Spumante (11.5% vol. or 12% vol. with indication of vineyard) is clear, of a ruby red color that can tend to garnet, decorated with fine foam and persistent, the smell is clean, fruity and complex, with hints of yeast and bread crust, the taste is dry, savory and well-structured, ranging from sweet to sweet. Finally, the Spumante rosè version is a brilliant rosé, always with a fine and persistent foam; the olfactory and gustatory elements remain the same, while the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume drops to 11.5% vol. (12% vol. for the productions with mention of vineyard).


Grape production area

The production area includes the territory of some municipalities located along the banks of the river Tanaro.


Specificity and historical notes

The current Nebbiolo d'Alba, with its austere and resistant to time, is the result of a long process of refinement of wine techniques, carried out by companies in the area.
