Colline Pescaresi

The Protected Geographical Indication "Colline Pescaresi" includes the following types of wine: White (also in the sparkling and passito types), Red (also sparkling, passito and novello) and Rosé (also sparkling and novello).


Grapes

The "Colline Pescaresi' PGI wines must be made from grapes from vines suitable for cultivation in Abruzzo. The specification of one of the white grape varieties (Biancame, Bombino, Chardonnay, Cococciola, Falanghina, Fiano, Greco, Malvasia, Manzoni bianco, Montonico, Moscato, Mostosa, Passerina, Pecorino, Pinot bianco, Pinot grigio, Riesling, Sauvignon, Sylvaner verde, Traminer), Trebbiano, Vermentino) or one of the black grapes (Aglianico, Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ciliegiolo, Dolcetto, Maiolica, Malbech, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Primitivo, Sangiovese, Syrah) is reserved for wines composed of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. In addition, grapes from vines suitable for cultivation in Abruzzo can be used up to a maximum of 15%.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 10.00% vol.), even sparkling, is straw yellow in colour, with a fruity aroma and a dry and savoury taste. The raisin type (16.00% vol.) differs in color, which tends to amber with aging. The red (10.50% vol.) and sparkling red are ruby in colour, with a fruity perfume and a harmonious flavour. Novello (11.00% vol.) has violet reflections and a fresh, velvety taste, while Passito has a garnet-like tone, with an intense aroma and a sweet, velvety flavour. Finally, Rosato (10.50% vol.) and Rosato sparkling, have a pink color, with an intense aroma and dry flavor, while in Rosato novello (11.00% vol.) the smell is fruity and the taste fresh and velvety. The parameters may then vary according to the specific grape variety used.


Grape production area

The production area includes a wide hilly strip that goes from the Abruzzo coast to the foot of Gran Sasso and Maiella.


Specificity and historical notes

Historical information on the presence of vines and wine in the area is mainly linked to the work of the Benedictine fathers in the territory of Pescara.
