Marca Trevigiana

The protected geographical indication "Marca Trevigiana" identifies three types of wine: white (also sparkling), red (also sparkling and novelli) and rosé (also sparkling).


Grapes

For the production of "Marca Trevigiana" PGI wines, only grapes suitable for cultivation in the province of Treviso may be used. In the case of specification of one of the vines, this must be the source of at least 85% of the grapes used. The vines that can be specified are: Chardonnay, I.M.6.0.13, Malvasia, Muller Thurgau, Pinot bianco, Glera, Riesling renano, Riesling italico, Sauvignon, Traminer, Verdiso, Verduzzo (from Verduzzo friulano and/or Verduzzo trevigiano), Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Franconia, I.M.2.15, Malbech, Marzemino, Merlot, Pinot Nero, Raboso, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Tai, Carmenère, Syrah, Marzemina bianca, Rebo, Petit Verdot, Glera lunga, Manzoni rosa e moscato.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The red wines of the PGI "Marca Trevigiana" have a red colour ranging from clear to garnet, with an intense, sweet and savoury aroma and bouquet. The whites, on the other hand, are straw yellow in colour, from unloading to intense, and give off a delicate and intense bouquet, accompanied by a medium sweet, dry, savoury taste with a fresh and lively finish. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume shall be 9,00% vol. for rosé (including sparkling) and white (including sparkling), 9,50% vol. for red (including sparkling) and 11,00% vol. for red novello.


Grape production area

The production area includes the area that connects the chain of the Prealps with the lagoon of Venice, characterized by hills very famous for the production of famous wines.


Specificity and historical notes

The Marca Trevigiana, although not having any administrative or political recognition, is a land of great winemaking tradition. The prevailing economic activity in its history is agriculture, with particular reference to the vine.
