Castel del Monte Bombino Nero

"Castel del Monte Bombino Nero" is a PDO that includes only one type of wine, without the need for variants or specifications of vineyard.


Grapes

Castel del Monte Bombino Nero is produced with a prevalence of grapes from the Bombino Nero grape variety, which must represent at least 90% of the total. The remaining 10% may be made up of other black grapes, as long as they are suitable for cultivation in Puglia, in the central Murgia area.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

Castel del Monte Bombino Nero has a rose colour with variable intensity. The aroma is fruity, distinctive and delicate, while the taste is dry and harmonious. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 12.00% vol.


Grape production area

The production area is represented by a small portion of the Murgia plateau, formed mainly of calcareous rocks. This territory, which takes the name of Castel del Monte from an ancient castle of Frederick II, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is partially included in the Natural Park of Alta Murgia. 


Specificity and historical notes

The area of Castel del Monte has a long wine tradition, traces of which can even be found in the works of art of Magna Graecia. Ancient roots that, over time, have led to the refinement of the techniques of cultivation and production to obtain wines that today have considerable fame, not only on a national level.
