"Castel del Monte Nero" di Troia is a Protected Designation of Origin conferred on the homonymous wine and that does not provide variants or specifications of vineyard.
Grapes
At least 90% of the grapes from Nero di Troia vines must be used to produce "Castel del Monte Nero di Troia". The remaining 10% can be made with other non-aromatic black grapes from Puglia.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
"Castel del Monte Nero di Troia" is a red wine whose tonality varies from ruby to garnet, especially after aging. Its smell is characteristic and delicate and is accompanied by a full-bodied and harmonious taste. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume shall be 13,00% vol
Grape production area
The production area coincides with a well delimited portion of the "Murgia" plateau and touches the municipalities of "Minervino Murge "," Andria ","Corato","Trani","Ruvo","Terlizzi","Bitonto","Palo del Colle","Toritto" and "Binetto".
Specificity and historical notes
The connection between the "Castel del Monte Nero di Troia" and the "Altopiano della Murgia" is strong and deep-rooted, as is all the wine-growing and wine-producing tradition in that area. The characteristics of the wine are the result of the geological composition of the soil, mainly calcareous, and the sub-Mediterranean climate, with a moderate temperature range. A perfect environment for the cultivation of vines, which had already been realized in Magna Graecia, a period that dates back to the first artistic evidence of this agricultural activity.
