Colline del Genovesato

The P.G.I "Colline del Genovesato" includes 3 types of wine: white, rosé and red. There are also types with indication of the vine Granaccia or Pigato.

Grapes

"Colline del Genovesato" PGI wines must be obtained from grapes coming from vineyards made up of one or more vines suitable for cultivation in the Liguria Region. The wines with the indication of one of the vines Granaccia or Pigato must be obtained from grapes coming from the corresponding vines for at least 85%. Other non-aromatic grape varieties of the same colour may be used, recognised as suitable for the production of wine grapes in the Liguria Region, up to a quota of 15%.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white (10.00% vol.), even sparkling, is a more or less intense yellow colour, with a delicate perfume and a fresh flavour. The rosé (10.50% vol.), even sparkling, is pink at first glance, exudes a delicate scent and has a fresh taste. The red (10.50% vol.), even sparkling, is more or less intense red in colour, combined with a delicate aroma and a balanced flavour; the new type (11.00% vol.) is ruby in colour and has a vinous perfume, while the Passito (16.50% vol.) is distinguished by its intense and persistent aroma.

Grape production area

The production area is located in the central-eastern part of the Liguria Region and includes a vast territory with vineyards located in low-medium hills.

Specificity and historical notes

The cultivation of vines in the area is historically attributed to the “Benedettini” monks, who made it an economic activity of primary importance for the city of Genova. The oenological techniques, modernized in instruments and materials, still maintain the foundations of traditional methodologies based on the selection of grapes to enhance the typical characteristics of local vines.
