Conselvano

The Protected Geographical Indication "Conselvano" includes 3 types of wine: white (also sparkling), red (also sparkling and novello) and rosé (also sparkling).

Grapes

The "Conselvano" PGI wines must be obtained from grapes coming from vines allowed to be cultivated in the province of Padova. There may be a specification of one of the following grape varieties: Chardonnay, I. M. 6.0.13, Malvasia (from Istrian Malvasia), Moscato bianco, Pinot bianco, Pinot grigio, Riesling renano, Riesling italico, Sauvignon, Tai (from Tocai friulano), Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marzemino, Merlot, Raboso (from Raboso Piave and/or Raboso Veronese), Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Carmenére, Syrah, Marzemina bianca, Petit Verdot, Manzoni rosa and Manzoni moscato. In such cases, at least 85% of the grapes must come from the corresponding vines. For the remaining quota, suitable vines can be used for cultivation in the province of Padua, up to a maximum of 15%

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The red wines with PGI "Conselvano" have a color from clear ruby to garnet red with purplish reflections, the aromas are complex and express the peculiarities of the vine. Even white wines are characterized by the complexity of their aromas, while the color of the eyes can vary from white, to light yellow with greenish reflections, to deep yellow. Depending on the maturity of the grapes, these wines have a good structure accompanied by excellent flavour with a fresh and lively finish. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume shall be 9,00% vol. for white (also sparkling) and rosé (also sparkling), 9,50% vol. for red (also sparkling) and 11,00% vol. for novello wine.

Grape production area

The production area extends in the southern area of the province of Padova, all flat, formed in geological times by the sediments of three rivers: the Po, the Adige and the Bacchiglione.

Specificity and historical notes

The "Conselvano" PGI has a deep link with its territory, as evidenced by the cultivation of the vine since Roman times.
