Contea di Sclafani o Valledolmo - Contea di Sclafani

The wines of the Protected Designation of Origin "Contea di Sclafani" or "Valledolmo-Contea di Sclafani" are red and white, both also reserve and late harvest.

Grapes

The composition of the blend used for the production of the white provides for a minimum quota of 95% of Catarratto, with other varieties suitable for cultivation in Sicily. For the red, on the other hand, from 0 to 100% grapes from Nero d'Avola and Perricone are always used, either together or individually.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The "Contea di Sclafani" or "Valledolmo-Contea di Sclafani" red (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 12% vol.) has a ruby red appearance, with different degrees of intensity and possible violet reflections. It has a pleasant, fruity and sometimes spicy aroma, enhanced by a typical olfactory note; the flavour has a rich structure and is dry and harmonious on the palate. For the white (11.5% vol.) the colour is straw yellow, with possible greenish reflections; the aroma is pleasant, fine and present and the taste is harmonious, dry and savoury.

Grape production area

The production area is located in the central north of Sicilia, straddling three provinces: Palermo, Caltanissetta and Agrigento.

Specificity and historical notes

The wines of Contea di Scalfani take their name from an ancient feud of the Norman period.
