Contessa Entellina

The wines of the "Contessa Entellina" Protected Designation of Origin are produced in the white, red, reserve red, rosé and late harvest versions. Then there are the wines with indication of grape variety: Grecanico, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Ansonica, Catarratto, Fiano, Viognier, Nero d'Avola, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir.

Grapes

The production of White, Red and Rosé must take place using a base of at least 50% of grapes from the vines Ansonica (for white), Nero d'Avola and / or Syrah (for red and rosé). In the productions with indication of the vine, instead, this must be the source of at least 85% of the grapes. If two varieties are indicated on the label, these together must represent 100% of the total and the minority may not go below the quota of 15%. In all types, for the remaining quotas can compete other similar berry varieties suitable for cultivation in Sicily.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The Contessa Entellina white wines all have a straw yellow colour, which can have different degrees of intensity and, in some cases, is enhanced by greenish reflections. The aroma is mainly delicate and characteristic, with possible fruity elements. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume varies between 11% vol. and 11.5% vol. The rosé 811% vol.), on the other hand, has orange reflections, a fine, characteristic and intense aroma and a dry, fragrant and velvety flavour. Finally, for the red wines, the colour is ruby with garnet reflections linked to ageing, while the minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is between 11.5% vol. and 12% vol. Further details on the organoleptic characteristics of the different variants can be found in the produtct specification.

Grape production area

The production area coincides only with the municipality of Contessa Entellina, an area of high and medium hills with a Mediterranean climate.
