Forlì

The "Forlì" PGI identifies white wines (including lively, sparkling and Spumanti wines), red wines (including lively, sparkling and Novelli wines) and rosé wines (including lively, sparkling and Spumanti wines).

Grapes

The "Forlì" PGI wines must be obtained from vines suitable for cultivation in Emilia Romagna. In the case of specification of one of the varieties Ancellotta, Barbera, Bombino bianco, Cabernet franc, Cabernet sauvignon, Canina nera, Centesimino, Chardonnay, Ciliegiolo, Fortana, Garganega, Malvasia, Manzoni bianco, Marzemino, Merlot, Montù, Moscato bianco, Müller Thurgau, Pinot bianco, Pinot nero, Riesling, Riesling italico, Sangiovese, Sauvignon, Syrah, Terrano, Trebbiano, Uva Longanesi, the wine must include a minimum quota of 85% of grapes from the corresponding vine variety. The remaining 15% can be obtained from grapes of the same colour, suitable for cultivation in Emilia Romagna.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white (10.00% vol.), even lively and sparkling, is straw yellow in colour with floral, fruity hints and a dry to sweet flavour, while the white Spumante wine is distinguished by its brut to sweet taste and hints of bread crust. The red wine (10.00% vol.), also lively and sparkling, is ruby red in colour, combined with a vinous aroma with fruity and floral notes and a dry to sweet, soft flavour. The new red (11.00% vol.) is characterized by strong fruity scents. The rosé (10.00% vol.), even lively and sparkling, has a more or less intense pink color and exudes a fruity scent, accompanied by a flavor from dry to sweet, soft, savory. The sparkling version, finally, differs in taste from brut to sweet and the hints related to the refinement of yeasts.

Grape production area

The production area develops between the Apennines and the plain, interspersed with the presence of hills.

Specificity and historical notes

Leandro Alberti, in the second half of the sixteenth century, in his "Descrittione di tutto Italia" affirmed the presence of vast vine crops on the hills of Romagna.
