Lago di Corbara
The Protected Designation of Origin "Lago di Corbara" includes different types of wines: Red, White, Passito and vendemmia tardiva. There are also several single-variety productions: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Grechetto, Vermentino, Chardonnay and Sauvignon. All types (except vendemmia tardiva) are also made in the Riserva version.
Grapes
Rosso and Rosso Riserva are produced with grapes from vineyards at least 70% of which are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sangiovese vines, present alone or in combination. For Bianco and Bianco Riserva, as well as for the vendemmia tardiva and the two types of Passito, a minimum of 60% Grechetto and Sauvignon is required. Monovitigno wines, on the other hand, start from a minimum base of 85% of the corresponding grapes. In all the variants, to complete the missing quota, are allowed other berry varieties of similar color, non-aromatic, suitable for cultivation in Umbria.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
The Rosso (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 12.5% vol.) is ruby red in colour and, as it ages, tends towards garnet; its aroma is characteristic and pleasant and its taste is dry, savoury, harmonious and sometimes austere. In the Riserva variant (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 13% vol.), the aroma is more intense and fruity, while the flavor acquires fullness, body and complexity. The white wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 12% vol.) is straw-coloured, with a characteristic and delicate aroma and a harmonious and frank flavour, from dry to sweet. The Riserva variant (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 12.5% vol.) has more intense and complex aromas, with a sapid and full taste. The vendemmia tardiva(minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 15% vol.) is golden yellow, with a characteristic aroma, sometimes embellished with hints of honey; the taste is velvety, from sweet to sweet. Passito and Passito Riserva are golden or amber-coloured, with an intense and characteristic aroma, accompanied by a harmonious, velvety flavour that ranges from sweet to sweet. Finally, the single-variety wines have further characteristics typical of the grapes of origin, which can be found in the regulations.
Grape production area
The production area is located in the province of Terni, in the south-east of Umbria.
Specificity and historical notes
The DOP "Lago di Corbara" is part of the wider DOP Orvieto and has particularities linked to the microclimate developed by the artificial lake of the same name.
