Marche

The "Marche" Protected Geographical Indication identifies white, red and rosé wines. These wines are also produced in the types: Sparkling, "Spumante di Qualità", "Spumante di qualità di tipo aromatico", "Novello", "Passito", "Mosto di uve parzialmente fermentato", from "uve appassite", from "uve stramature".


Grapes

The "Marche" PGI must be obtained from vines suitable for cultivation in the Marche region. A minimum use quota of 85% is provided for in the case of production with a specific vine variety. In these cases, for the remaining 15%, the similarly colored grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Marche region can be used. If the specification indicates two vines, these, together, must represent the entire blend, and each cannot have a share of less than 15%.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 9.5% vol.) has a straw yellow colour with a delicate and pleasant aroma and a dry and fresh taste. The red version (10% vol.) is characterized by a ruby red colour, a delicate and characteristic perfume and a dry and harmonious taste. The rosé (10% vol.), on the other hand, has a more or less intense pink colour, combined with a fresh and floral aroma and a delicate and harmonious flavour. The morphological characteristics of the territory allow to obtain fresh, floral and fragrant wines as far as sparkling whites and spumante are concerned, while the "Rossi da raccolta Tardiva" have more intense colours and scents, with a soft and enveloping taste. Grape production area

The production area, between the coast and the medium-high hill, is characterized by reliefs between 50m and 650m above sea level.


Specificity and historical notes

The first traces of vinification in the area date back to the 10th century BC.
