Montecompatri Colonna

The Protected Designation of Origin "Montecompatri Colonna" or "Montecompatri" or "Colonna", includes three types of white wines: the basic version, the sparkling and the Superiore.


Grapes

The grapes used in the production of Montecompatri Colonna wines come from vineyards composed of Malvasia bianca di Candia and Malvasia puntinata (maximum 70%), Trebbiano toscano, Trebbiano verde and Trebbiano giallo (not less than 30%) and possibly Bellone and Bombino (maximum 10%).


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

All the wines of the denomination have a characteristic straw yellow aspect, whose intensity can be variable. The aroma is vinous, delicate and pleasant and on the palate the taste is dry or parched, medium - sweet or sweet, characteristic and harmonious. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 11% vol. for the basic version and for the Frizzante, while it rises to 12% vol. for the Superiore.


Grape production area

The production area is located in the centre of Lazio, in the province of Roma, and involves the hilly and foothill territory at the foot of the Colli Albani. An area strongly suited to viticulture, thanks to the particular soils of volcanic origin and the temperate Mediterranean climate.


Specificity and historical notes

The wine-growing tradition of Montecompatri and Colonna has its roots in the Roman period, but it has gone through almost intact all the Middle Ages, confirming itself as one of the main agricultural and economic activities of the territory.
