The Protected Designation of Origin "Moscato di Trani" includes two types of white wine: Natural Sweet and liquoroso
Grapes
The wines of the denomination "Moscato di Trani" are all produced with grapes from vineyards composed, for at least 85%, of white Moscato vines. The remaining share, not exceeding 15%, may consist of other white grapes, suitable for cultivation in the province of Bari.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
The Dolce Naturale (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 12,50% vol) is a golden yellow wine, which comes with a characteristic scent, capable of releasing an intense aroma. The taste is sweet, velvety and harmonious. In the Liquoroso variant (18% vol), on the other hand, the tonality can range from golden to amber and is accompanied by an intense and characteristic scent, slightly aromatic, and by a sweet, velvety and warm taste.
Grape production area
The production area is located within the homogeneous 'Murgia Centrale' wine-growing area in the north-west. Part of the territory is also included in the Alta Murgia Natural Park and is characterised by a sub-Mediterranean climate.
Specificity and historical notes
The wine-growing tradition of the Central Murgia is ancient and consolidated, so much so as to find traces of it in numerous historical documents, kept above all in monastic archives and libraries, and works of art.
