Nasco di Cagliari

The wine identified by the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) "Nasco di Cagliari" is produced both in the basic version and in the variants Liquoroso and Liquoroso Riserva.

Grapes

"Nasco di Cagliari" wines are produced using with absolute prevalence the grapes of the Nasco vine (at least 95%). To these can be added a small amount of grapes from other varieties, as long as they are suitable for cultivation in Sardegna.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Nasco di Cagliari" white has an appearance that can range from straw yellow to golden. The taste that accompanies it is pleasant, characteristic and manifests a taste that can go from dry to sweet. The olfactory notes reveal a fine and delicate wine, with a minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 13.5% vol. The Liquoroso and Liquoroso Riserva variants (17.5% vol.), on the other hand, have a colouring that can range from straw yellow to amber, combined with an intense, ethereal aroma, enhanced by hints of ripe fruit; the flavour is pleasant and ranges from dry to sweet.

Grape production area

The production area covers the territories of four different provinces: Cagliari, Medio Campidano, Carbonia-Iglesias and Oristano. This is an extremely varied area, especially from a geological point of view.

Specificity and historical notes

Nasco is a very particular vine, considered one of the oldest in Italy. Its origins are uncertain and difficult to reconstruct, so much so that the most accredited thesis is that which considers it an autochthonous Sardinian vine. The name derives from "musk" (Muscus) and this would also explain the aromas that are perceived in both grapes and wine.
