The "Pinot Nero dell'Oltrepò Pavese", protected by the relative Protected Designation of Origin, is a red wine, also produced in the Riserva version.
Grapes
The "Pinot Nero dell'Oltrepò Pavese" are produced using, for a minimum quota of 95%, grapes from the homonymous vine. These can be accompanied, up to a maximum of 5%, the grapes of other red grapes, non-aromatic, suitable for cultivation in Lombardy.
Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties
The "Pinot Nero dell'Oltrepò Pavese" is a red wine with a ruby hue, sometimes more subtle or embellished with orange nuances. The aroma is characteristic, ethereal and pleasant, with hints of morello cherry, blackcurrant, berries, dried mushrooms, ripe plum and macerated fruit. It goes well with a dry, harmonious flavour, which can be soft or full, enriched by a bitterish aftertaste. In the Riserva variant, the orange reflections that characterize the appearance as well as the olfactory elements remain; the flavour, on the other hand, becomes dry, warm and slightly tannic.
Grape production area
The cultivation area is located in the Po basin and, more precisely, coincides with the hilly profile that goes from Piedmont to Emilia Romagna. The profile is essentially pre-Apennine.
Specificity and historical notes
The Pinot Nero vinified in red was recognized as an autonomous denomination, within the Oltrepò Pavese, in 1970, testifying to the fundamental role that viticulture has always played, over the centuries, in the agricultural history of the area.
