Terre di Cosenza

The "Terre di Cosenza" Protected Designation of Origin, includes a wide range of wines, which can be white, red or rosé, with indication of the vine variety or with specification of the sub-area, possibly also produced in the variants sparkling wine, raisin wine, reserve and "vendemmia tardiva". The complete and exhaustive list can be found in the Product specification.

Grapes

For the production of Terre di Cosenza wines that do not have an indication of the vine variety, specific compositions of the blend are foreseen. For the Rosso a 60% of Magliocco is necessary, while for the rosé the same percentage is recognised for the Greco nero, Magliocco, Gaglioppo, Aglianico and Calabrese vines (alone or in combination). In white wines, 60% must be Greco Bianco, Guarnaccia Bianca, Pecorello and Montonico. The Montonico also forms the basis (60% minimum) of spumanti, both white and rosé. Then there are the variants with indication of the vine, in which this represents 85% of the total grapes. In all types, however, to complete the missing quotas, the use of similar berry vines, which can be cultivated in Calabria, is allowed. Only for the rosé sparkling wine and for the Magliocco are there limits to the grapes that can be used, which must necessarily be those of Greco Nero, Gaglioppo, Aglianico and Calabrese.

Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The wines of the denomination are quite numerous, also thanks to the wide range of vines used and the different vinifications. In tracing the possible common elements, which undoubtedly reside in the fruit and floral notes that embellish the aromatic profile, it is necessary to emphasize the varied character of the offer. In the specification it is possible to trace the precise description of the organoleptic characteristics associated with each wine.

Grape production area

The production area coincides with the entire province of Cosenza.

Specificity and historical notes

Terre di Cosenza wines are the result of a careful and painstaking recovery of ancient traditions and production, which for centuries had been the pride of this land.
