Tintilia del Molise

The Protected Designation of Origin "Tintilia del Molise" includes four types of wine: Rosso, Rosso Riserva and Rosato.


Grapes

The Tintilia vine must represent at least 95% of the vineyards from which the grapes used to produce the wines of the denomination come from. The remaining 5% can be made up of other non-aromatic vines, suitable for cultivation in the province of Campobasso and Isernia.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The "Tintilia del Molise" Rosso (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume 11,50% vol) is a wine with an intense ruby red colour, veined with violet reflections; it has a characteristic aroma, which is winy, intense and pleasant; the taste is dry, harmonious and soft. The Riserva variant (13% vol.) differs in its garnet-red aspect and orange reflections; it has a characteristic, intense and spicy aroma, which is combined with a dry, harmonious and soft flavour. The hue of the rosé (11,50% vol) can have different degrees of intensity and is associated with a fruity smell as well as the taste, which is also dry, fresh and harmonious.


Grape production area

The production area, rather large, is divided between the provinces of Isernia and Campobasso.


Specificity and historical notes

The "Tintilia" has been cultivated in Molise for several centuries. Its presence is historically proven as early as the end of 1700, and in 1900, the wine that resulted from it, was awarded as excellence at the exhibition of wine in Paris.
