Fiano di Avellino

"Fiano di Avellino" is the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) that identifies a specific type of white wine.


Grapes

"Fiano di Avellino" is produced using at least 85% of grapes from the Fiano vine. The remaining 15% can be made up of the fruits of the Greco B, Coda di Volpe B and Trebbiano Toscano B vines, taken alone or in combination.


Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

"Fiano di Avellino" is straw yellow in colour, with variable intensity. The aroma is characteristic and intense, pleasant and fine, while on the palate the wine is fresh and harmonious. The minimum total alcoholic strength by volume is 11.50% vol.


Grape production area

The production area falls within the province of Avellino, north of the capital, and extends to the border with that of Benevento. Moreover, this territory is partly part of the Partenio Regional Park. It is a hilly area characterized by a harsh climate in winter and mild in summer, perfect for ensuring a gradual ripening that perfectly balances the sugar content and acidity of the grapes.


Specificity and historical notes

The wine vocation of the area where Fiano di Avellino was born today is largely testified by writings and historical documents. The beginnings of vine cultivation in this area are due to the presence of the Sabato river. In addition, in the development and evolution of this agricultural activity has always been central to the village of Lapio, which already in 1600 friar Scipione Bella Bona indicated as an area of production of an excellent wine, at the time called Apiano.
