Vigneti delle Dolomiti Weinberg Dolomiten

The Protected Geographical Indication "Vigneti delle Dolomiti" or "Weinberg Dolomiten" concerns white wines (also produced in the sparkling and passito typology), red wines (also in the sparkling, passito and novello typology) and rose wines (also in the sparkling and passito typology).

Grapes

The "Vigneti delle Dolomiti" PGI wines must be obtained from vines suitable for cultivation in the provinces of Bolzano, Trento and Belluno. The specification of the vine is allowed in case of use of the same with a minimum share of 85%, while the remaining 15% can be produced from other varieties always suitable for the provinces of Bolzano, Trento and Belluno. Physicochemical and Organoleptic properties

The white wine (minimum total alcohol content 10% vol.) has a straw yellow to golden colour, sometimes with greenish or copper reflections; the aroma is pleasant, fine, sometimes aromatic; the taste is pleasant, from dry to sweet. The red wine (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 10% vol. for the new 11% vol.) has a more or less intense ruby red colour, sometimes with orange reflections; the aroma is vinous, pleasant, sometimes ethereal or fruity and the taste is harmonious, from dry to sweet. Finally, the Rosato (minimum total alcoholic strength by volume of 10% vol.) has a more or less intense pink colour, with a delicate, pleasant aroma and a fresh, harmonious, dry to sweet taste. All the sparkling versions have a lively and evanescent foam. Grape production area

The production area covers the entire territory of the provinces of Trento, Bolzano and Belluno.

Specificity and historical notes

The grape seeds found in the pile-dwelling settlement of Ledro (TN) and in the surroundings of Bolzano, attributable to the Fritzens-Sanzeno culture, bear witness to the cultivation of vines in the area since the Ancient Bronze Age, between the 19th and 17th centuries BC.
